Day 1: Cusco - Soqma - Rayan.

We come and pick up at your hotel in Cusco and travel via private vehicle through the Sacred Valley (1 hr. & 40 min), reaching the picturesque village of Soqma (Alt. 3,205 meters), which is the trailhead to start our trekking. We will meet our tour leader and staff and begin our grand adventure to Ancascocha.

We will begin with a gentle walk along the Valley (1.5 hours) until you reach the waterfall of Perolniyoc, stopping to enjoy one of the most beautiful waterfalls within the Sacred Valley. We will continue walking for an additional hour, getting to the archaeological site of Perolniyoc, perched atop the mountain. After listening to our tour leader revealing the remnants of the Inca history, we will walk for one more hour to reach our camp and have lunch. On this first day, we will have the opportunity to acclimate to the high altitude. After lunch, we can relax and rest for the next day.

Overnight camp in the village of Rayan (3,700 meters / 12.136 feet).

Day 2: Rayan - Ancascocha.

Our second day begins with a delicious breakfast prepared & served by our chef. We leave camp, hiking gently for 3 hrs., reaching the highest point into the passage of Puka Kasa (Alt. 4,450 m / 14,596 ft.).

This is the most challenging section for most individuals due to the altitude. However, it’s also the most spectacular part of the tour; you’ll enjoy the snow-covered mountains, in addition to a vista of the lower landscape of the Sacred Valley.

In reaching the peak of the mountain, you’ll have the feeling of surviving one of the highest mountain ranges. After enjoying all the fantastic and picturesque views, you’ll continue trekking to Chancachuco, hiking for one hour and a half until lunchtime.

As we continue our walk, you’ll appreciate several spectacular snow-capped peaks that you’ll enjoy throughout this hike: “Veronica” mountain (Alt. 5,950 m) until arriving at the Valley of Ancascocha. Here you’ll observe traditional small plantations by inhabitants of the area. After crossing a stream and hiking uphill for another 2 hours, you’ll finally reach our campsite, above the Ancascocha Lake (4,090 m).

Day 3: Ancascocha - Huayanay Pass - Muyu Muyu community

Today we will wake up around 5:30 am and enjoy our breakfast before starting the day’s hike.

On day 3 of the Ancascocha Trek, we will enjoy the most incredible views. We will enjoy the serenity of crystal lakes and stunning peaks of the Huayunay mountains and appreciate the unique architecture of the real Incan roads that link the classical Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

After four hours of hiking followed by a further half-hour descent, we will reach our lunch spot at Inca Rakay. After lunch, we keep following the path downhill for another four hours. Along the way, we will enjoy the lush mountain forests and features of the Classic Inca Trail until we reach our campsite for the night.

Day 4: Muyu Muyu - Paucarcancha - Kilometer 82 - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

On the last day of The Ancascocha Trek, we discover the start of the Inca trail that leads to the Machu Picchu Inca site. Our hike will begin with a two-and-a-half-hour descent to the first Inca site of Paucarcancha, where we will take a break to enjoy and explore the beauty of this Incan site. We continue downwards for a further four hours through the village of Huyallabamba until we reach to following Incan site of Llaqtapata. After taking some time to explore, we continue the hike along an undulating path until we reach the beginning of the Inca Trail.

At Km 82 of the Inca trail, we will reach the end of our Ancascocha trek and enjoy our last lunch of the tour together. We will then take our private van to Ollantaytambo train station, from where we will catch our train to Machu Picchu Town. To mark the end of The Ancascocha Trek, we will celebrate with a tasty group dinner before retiring to our beds for a good night’s sleep in our hotel.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes Town - Machu Picchu - Cusco.

We wake early to catch a bus up to the Machu Picchu Inca site, where we will have the chance to enjoy sunrise and experience the wonder of Machu Picchu in the morning light. You will enjoy a two-hour tour from a local guide around this great archeological site and then enjoy some free time to explore it further by yourself.

During this time, you may also opt to hike to the top of Huayna Picchu, the iconic mountain peak that overlooks the site of Machu Picchu, as well as Machu Picchu Mountain itself after we will return to Machu Picchu Town by bus, from where we catch our train to Ollantaytambo and then take a private bus back to Cusco.
