Lares Trek to Machu Picchu - 4 Days

The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu is one of the Alternative Treks available to the Machu Picchu Inca site. You will be spoilt with amazing views of native forests, crystal lakes, and the Peruvian Andes along this route. You will get the chance to meet the local Quechua people of Cuncany village, see native animals such as llamas and alpacas and sleep under the starriest skies. The Lares Trek 4 Days has been specially designed for people who could not book the oversubscribed Classic Inca Trail. As a result, we offer the best less crowded route and a more authentic, peaceful trekking experience. This Lares Valley Hike 4 Day is a perfect Alternative Route to get into the beautiful site of Machu Picchu passing throughout the unique and spectacular landscape of Urubamba mountain range and sacred snow peaks of Colque Cruz which are still worshipped as gods for the Quechua people.

On this Lares Trek 4 Days, the Equipment is carried by mule and llamas rather than porter, making a huge difference, giving trekkers the freedom to undertake these more challenging routes in the wilderness Mountains in Peru. Another part of the Lares Trail that makes a difference is that you continue to Aguas Calientes Town after the trek and spend the night in a hotel in comfort before ascending to Machu Picchu Inca complex the next day morning.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco - Calca - Lares Hot spring - Huaca Wasi.

At the indicated time, you will be picked up from your hotel, and then we will board a bus that will take us to the community of Lares. During this bus trip, you will be able to see the sacred valley of the Incas and beautiful villages along the way. The scenery on the route is truly spectacular, so it is highly recommended to take your camera with you and some snacks for the small Andean children that you will surely meet along the way. This bus will take approximately 3 hours.

Upon arrival in Lares (3,250 m / 10,662 ft), we will visit the hot springs located a few kilometers from the village. It is possible to relax in its waters (30º C-35º C), and then we will have lunch. Then we start walking towards Huaca Wasi, a small community located at 3600 m.a.s.l. (11,810 feet). The walk to Huaca Wasi will take around 3 hours. Upon arrival, we will take a good rest in our tents and then join our guide for dinner and camp next to a local house. Finally, we will go to rest in our tents, with the peace of the Andes.

Day 2: Huaca Wasi – Pass Ipsay – Patacancha.

On this second day, we will get up early for breakfast and then hike a steep path for about 3-4 hours until we reach a height of 4350m. (14,435 feet). Along the way, you will enjoy one of the most amazing Andean landscapes; we will also walk along colossal mountain slopes and small agricultural areas, where the natives still use traditional ways of farming, a place where Spanish is their second language, and where Andean men continue to live in harmony with mother nature.

We will make a stop in an excellent place for lunch, and we will begin to descend towards Patacancha, passing through the Ipsaycocha lagoon where we will meet local people with their animals and typical birds of the area, arriving at the small town located at 3800 m (1246 ft). We will rest here; we will set up the tents and then have dinner at the local house with the group. We will spend the night at the Patacancha campsite.

Day 3: Patacancha – Willoq – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes.

After breakfast, we will continue descending, passing through the community of Willoq, a colorful town that stands out for the preservation of a living culture, a natural area where Andean families continue to produce their own clothing, live by raising their own animals, and believe in their own gods. After a walk of about 4 hours, we will arrive at the town of Ollantaytambo, located at 2,850 m. (9350 feet). In the town of Ollantaytambo, we will have lunch, and then you will have free time to explore this significant Inca settlement. In the afternoon we will take the train to Aguas Calientes (the town of Machu Picchu).

Aguas Calientes is a place of rest for those who wish to go up to Machupicchu first thing in the morning, here we will rest in a hostel (private bathroom), where you can recharge cell phones or cameras, in the afternoon you can go relax in the hot springs located in the upper part of the town. Aguas Calientes has developed very well in recent years; therefore, today, you can find internet access here, plenty of restaurants and bars, ATMs, and souvenir shops everywhere. We will spend the night in the designated hostel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco.

This day, we will have the option to go up very early in the morning and be one of the first to visit the park and have the chance to see the sunrise. Once there, our guide will show us the most important sectors of this great city. The guided tour will last approximately 2 hours, and after that, you will have free time to explore the ruins on your own, and if you wish, you can climb the mountain of Wayna Picchu, the great mountain that appears in the background of each classic image from Machu Picchu. It takes about an hour or more to reach the top, after some very steep stairs, although it is a bit difficult, at the top you will be rewarded with one of the most amazing views of your life.

Later, we will take the bus to return to Aguas Calientes, where we will have free time to have lunch, and then we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo (1 and 1/2 hours) and from there by bus to Cusco (1 ½ hours). Cusco at approximately 10:30 pm.
