In the Lares Valley, besides enjoying the beautiful scenery, you can enjoy a beautiful experience living with the local people, who will receive us with open arms showing the most beautiful thing about this place … its “simplicity.” On this route, you can also enjoy the medicinal thermal baths, appreciate Andean lagoons, snow-covered mountain passes, and finally visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
This alternative trek is one of the best opportunities to see the Mountain range of Urubamba, interact with the communities living in this area, walk around the woods of Queuñas and relax in the famous thermal baths of the town of Lares, as a good way to recharge batteries. Once we arrive in the town, we go up to the hot springs where you can rest and enjoy these beautiful outdoor hot springs. Lunch is offered here. Our transport awaits you during this time and then continues the trip for about 20 minutes to the start of the trail known as Pascana.
Here we meet the muleteers who embark our stuff on the horses. Then we get ready to start our trek to Quishuarani for around 3 hours. When we arrive at our camp, everything will be prepared for you. We can walk through some of the premises in our free time and appreciate their weaving techniques.
This is a beautiful day filled with incredible scenery and the opportunity to visit various Andean towns. Be careful when the temperature drops at night.
After a delicious breakfast, we leave for Quishuarani. This will be our longest day on the trail as we continue northeast up the valley, passing small stone houses with thatched roofs. The trail flattens out after half an hour before climbing steeply for the 2 ½ hour trek to the highest pass, called Paso de Pachacutec (4758m). From here, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of Lake Pachacutec and the snow-capped peaks of Pitusiray.
The trail continues for 1 hour along a narrow ridge until descending into a beautiful secluded area filled with glacial lakes. We will have lunch in that beautiful place. Then we continue following the edge of the place to descend to the next valley, passing through a series of waterfalls until we reach the town of Cancha Cancha. Here we camp for the night.
After a delicious breakfast, we start our day hike to the small river of Cancha Cancha. It is a 4-hour walk to our destination, the small town called Huaran. From here, we take a local transport to the town of Ollantaytambo, a wonderfully preserved Andean town; you will have some time to explore it before boarding the train to Aguas Calientes. We spend the night in a good hotel in Machu Picchu Pueblo.
This day will be the visit of the citadel of Machupicchu. You will have to get up at 4:45 am, after having your breakfast at the hotel, you will have to make the line at the bus station to Machu Picchu, the first bus leaves at 5:30 am, after 30 minutes You will arrive at the entrance door, where you will have to show the entrance tickets with your original passport. For that we make the reservation of the tickets in the first shift from 6:00 am to 8:00 am. Can I be picked up from the Sacred Valley?
Yes, let us know in advance to organize your pick-up time.
Huaynas E. really works hard to make an awesome excursion! We trekked to above 15K feet and played soccer with some local kids, which was probably my favorite experience. This is a fabulous way to enjoy the Peruvian countryside.
