Maras and Moray Tour - Half Day

The Incas built thousands of platforms to cultivate various products, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, quinoa, and more. Perhaps the most beautiful of all was Moray, a circular platform system that survives today. Nearby, there are some natural salt wells formed thousands of years ago. This place is called Salineras de Maras and, together with Moray, they are two of the most popular tourist attractions in Cusco.

This is a fantastic half-day excursion to explore part of the Sacred Valley. You will see impressive views of the Urubamba mountain ranges, Veronica mountain, and the green valleys of the farms. On this half-day trip to Maras Moray – Cusco – Peru, you will learn about agriculture, textiles, and the history of the Incas.

Departure & Return Location:

Hotel Cusco.

Departure Time:

Pick up from your hotel (8:00am – 8:30am).

Itinerary

Cusco - Maras - Moray - Cusco.

We will pick you up from your hotel from 8:10 AM to 8:30 AM and head to Moray. The drive is about 1 hour and 20 minutes and is honestly beautiful. You will drive through snow-capped peaks of the Andes, through lush yellow wheat fields, and pass some villages. Finally, you will arrive at the fascinating display of terraces in Moray. Moray has three amphitheater-like terraces, made by the Incas. These terraces, which are carved deep into the earth in a bowl shape, were thought to determine the optimal conditions for growing crops.

When you are done exploring Moray, you will head to the salt mines of Maras, which are about 2 miles away. The village is a former salt-producing center that dates back to colonial times. There are over 3000 salt pools, all carved into the mountainside, filled daily by a little stream of water. The area is unique and spectacularly beautiful. Once you are done with the visit, you will head back to the city in time to enjoy some lunch on your own then return to Cusco.
